How to Choose the Right Boudoir Photographer (Especially If You’re Based in or near Surrey!)

  • Post category:Boudoir

Booking a boudoir shoot isn’t just “booking a photoshoot.”

It’s saying yes to being seen.

And if you’re anything like most of the women who walk into my Surrey studio, you’ve probably thought about it for months… maybe even years… before you actually enquire.

So choosing the right boudoir photographer matters. A lot.

Not just for the photos.
For how you feel.

1. Do You Actually Love Their Work?

Not just “it’s nice.”

Not just “she looks good.”

But does it move you?

Boudoir photography isn’t one-size-fits-all. Some photographers shoot dark and moody. Others are ultra-glam. Some are soft and romantic.

My work sits somewhere editorial. Polished. Intentional. Like you’ve stepped off the page of a magazine… but you still recognise yourself.

When you’re looking through someone’s portfolio, ask yourself:

Can I see me in this?
Do I trust them with my body?
Do these images make me feel powerful?

If the answer isn’t a full yes… keep looking.

2. Do They Photograph Real Women?

This one matters.

Models are confident. Experienced. Used to cameras.

Most of my clients are not.

They’re everyday women in their 30’s, 40s, 50s, 60s and beyond. Women who tell me they’re awkward. Or nervous. Or “not photogenic.”

And then they walk out looking and feeling like absolute goddesses!

You want a photographer who knows how to guide you. Who doesn’t expect you to know how to pose. Who understands real bodies, real insecurities, real nerves.

Empowerment doesn’t come from being perfect.

It comes from being held properly in the process.

3. The Experience Should Feel Safe

Boudoir is vulnerable.

You should feel calm from your very first message.

Clear communication.
Boundaries respected.
No pressure.
No ego.

In my studio, that means a warm welcome, music playing, careful styling, and me guiding you every step of the way. You don’t need to perform. You don’t need to impress me.

You just need to show up.

4. It’s About Empowerment, Not Just Images

There’s a moment in almost every shoot where something shifts.

The shoulders drop.
The breathing softens.
And she looks at the back of the camera and says…

“Wait. Is that really me?”

That’s the part you’re booking for.

Boudoir photography, when done properly, is an empowerment shoot. Not loud. Not forced. Just a quiet realisation of who you already are.

And when you see the final gallery… you get it.

You are her.

Choosing the right boudoir photographer isn’t about trends or follower counts.

It’s about trust.
Connection.
Skill.
And feeling safe enough to let someone say…

Let me show you what I see.

And mean it. 🤎
